Since the 2006 model year, the Audi Q7 has offered drivers in Nova Scotia and around the world a great full-size luxury SUV option that’s as practical as it is stunning and fun to drive. In 2021, the Q7 receives some minor changes, but remains for the most part faithful to the previous model year. Regardless, it remains an ideal choice for any Nova Scotian looking for the ideal family car that also conveys that sense of luxury and offers unique drive features all in one package.
With prices starting at $67,950, it’s a big-budget vehicle, but it’s also hardly your everyday runaround. Let’s see what makes the 2021 Audi Q7 so special.
2021: What’s New?
The main redesign year for the Q7 was 2020, so it’s no surprise that it’s only minor upgrades and changes in the new model year. First of all, some improvements to the ADAS package, with blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert now included as standard.
There are some new packages available, too. The Black Optics package provides some superb black exterior detailing, including the front grille, roof rails, rear cladding and front air intake vents. The top-level Technik trim now comes with some extra interior style features such as leather-wrapped armrests and center console, as well as heated rear seats.
So, there’s not a massive amount that’s new, but that’s partly the good news. You still get many of the same fundamental great features like the strong Singleframe front grille, the dynamic shape and commanding wide stance. None of that changes, but nice refreshed appearance features on select trims like the new matrix headlights, octagonal grille shape, optional appearance packages and more, all help to give a fresh look.
Powertrain and Performance
The good news is that Audi’s updated set of engine options will continue into the 2021 model year. Choose from either the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine or the 3.0L V6 option for additional power. All are paired with a fantastic 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission with manual control and paddle shifters mounted on the wheel.
In all, your Q7 can get up to 335hp and 369lb-ft of torque. Equip the towing package --- as many good Nova Scotians will need --- and this luxury SUV shows its tough side thanks to an impressive towing capacity of up to 7,700lbs (3493kg).
Further enhancing performance on the Q7 and making your ride in Nova Scotia as smooth as possible is the independent 5-link Sport Adaptive air suspension. When you’ve got three rows of seating full of passengers, keeping the ride silky soft and comfortable is a big part of what keeps everyone quiet and happy.
Q7 Interior
Living up to Audi’s luxury reputation, the 2021 Q7 interior is composed of the finest soft-touch materials, sumptuous leathers and fantastic piano black as a new finish for select trims. Together the refreshed interior creates an ambience of futuristic wonder. The leather-wrapped steering wheel feels great in the hand, and if you opt for the Luxury Package, you’ll get finely contoured driver and front passenger seats that will enhance comfort too. They’re upholstered with stunning Valcona/Cricket leather and come heated and ventilated, as well as with a massage function. Long journeys across Nova Scotia and beyond just got a lot more comfortable.
Audi are also offering a choice of interior wood trim to reflect your personal taste. Go for the Natural Grey Wood, more in line with the classic Q7 and Audi style, or the older-world charm of Eucalyptus Lava Brown. There’s also a darker grey in the form of Oak Grey. Make a choice and turn your Q7 into a more personalized space.
The Q7 is the perfect choice for the bigger family, too, thanks to its standard third-row of seating. If you need more space in the back, however, you can access the power seat lowering function via the hands-free powered tailgate to lay the third-row flat and make more cargo volume. Fold down the two rear rows to get a total of 2,075 litres of trunk space.
Drivers of the 2021 Q7 will not be disappointed in the high-tech offerings for the new model year. Embedded in that fantastic piano-black dash finish are some of the most flawless and advanced screens and integrated drive technology that Audi has ever offered.
Behind the steering wheel you’ll find Audi’s signature Virtual Cockpit with a 12.3” all-digital display that comes with Google Earth capability built in. In the center stack is a fantastic 10.1-inch MMI touchscreen that is full customizable so you can arrange it perfectly to suit your needs. The screen comes with haptic response and voice commands as standard to make it easier than ever to access what you need.
ADAS features are also more advanced in the Q7. The various cameras can work together to create a virtual 360-degree birds-eye view of your Q7 to help with parking and better se your surroundings. The pre sense package also offers an array of great ADAS features to make your drive all the easier and safer.
The 2021 Q7, then, is clearly built for the Nova Scotian wanting his luxury and utility cake and eating it, too. Come see them at Audi Halifax!
